“Musical ‘Chess’ moves should be masterful” — Hedy Weiss, Chicago Sun-Times Theater Critic

Jeff Recommended
Fred Anzevino and Brenda Didier, co-directors and Jeff Award winners for last year’s production of Evita, are teaming again to bring Chicago the first production of Chess in 20 years, cabaret theatre style.  Other Jeff Award winners and nominees are Maggie Portman as Florence, Jeremy Trager as Anatoly and Courtney Crouse as Freddie.

The Illinois Chess Association is providing players for chess blitzes on  Saturday nights during the dinner hour and a representative for the  post-show talk-back sessions on Thursday nights.

Chess started as a concept album in 1984, moved to the London stage in 1986 and to Broadway with a book added in 1988.  One Night in Bangkok and I Know Him So Well are among the best known songs from the musical about a love triangle with the Cold War as backdrop intrigue and the game of chess as a metaphor about the struggles of love and life.
