New education program starts in this fall.
Fred Anzevino, co-founder of Theo Ubique, has long been recognized for bringing in new, young talent to his shows and providing the kind of direction and experience for them to go onto other challenges in Chicago theatre. Theo Ubique is now tapping into his talents along with those of other experienced Teaching Artists to providing training in cabaret theatre, teaching what is known as the triple threat – acting, dance and voice – and knowing how to integrate all three for the stage.
Class Levels
The Theo Ubique Youth Education Program starts this fall on Saturdays for three grade levels:
- 4th-6th
- 6th-8th
- High School
Dates
Classes start Saturday, October 2 and run weekly through Saturday, Nov. 20. The first six classes are devoted to teaching acting, voice and dance, followed by how to put them together. The last two classes combine all levels for rehearsal and a cabaret theatre show at the No Exit Café, where Theo Ubique performs. The show will be open to family, friends and the public. Students will serve food and drinks, the same as Theo Ubique actors do for a show, to demonstrate the intimacy and interaction actors have with the audience.
Tuition
Tuition for the fall classes is:
- $195 for early registration through August
- $225 for regular registration
- 10 percent cash discount
Scholarships
A limited number of ALD. JOE MOORE SCHOLARSHIPS for talented, underserved students in the Rogers Park and Edgewater neighborhoods will be available. Ald. Moore is 49th Ward Alderman covering Rogers Park and parts of Edgewater neighborhoods and serves as Chairman of the Theo Ubique Board of Directors. The number of scholarships depends on the amount of funds raised through grants and individual sponsorships.
Program Manager
Coordinating the program is Jacque Lueken, who previously worked as a director and teaching artist with Tya and EBPAW at Apple Tree Theatre in Highland Park and was the Education Coordinator and a Teaching Artist with Emerald City Theatre.
